The Voting to Create the 10/13-10/19/19 Fan Voted Chart Will Be a “Bonus Voting”

When I made the change in my voting at the beginning of September, I made a rule that I wanted to aim to keep 6 songs on Level 10 as much as possible. Once we entered a voting where there would be less than 6 songs on Level 10, I was going to just promote two extra songs off of Level 9 and call it good. However, an unfortunate side effect of my changes has cropped up. Due to the number of songs being promoted and the fact I made it so the Top 5 on each poll were safe from retirement, I have several Levels with 5 songs on them. While some might not consider that an issue, I do because it is allowing songs that are getting a relatively small number of votes to remain in the voting week in and week out.

The voting this past week has made it so we will only have 5 songs on Level 10 during this week’s voting, so I am instituting a “bonus week” in order to make some changes to my plans. I have decided to expand upon the extra two promotions from Level 9 to Level 10 in order to try to “beef up” the number of songs on some of the Levels to a number where songs have to reach their percentage to remain in the voting. You will see in some cases where songs are being promoted more than one level so I can increase the number of songs on some of the levels that are running low right now.

Here’s what I plan on doing based on the number of songs on each level:

  • First rule of a bonus voting will be…NO SONGS WILL BE RETIRED! No matter how short of the percentage of the vote a song is from what it needs, I will not retire any song after this week’s voting.
  • Level 10: There will be no changes to anything with the songs or the points for Level 10.
  • Level 9: Three songs will be promoted from Level 9 to Level 10. There will be no points changes
  • Level 8: All five songs will be promoted from Level 8 to Level 9. 4th and 5th place will get an extra 10 Place Points, giving them 13 and 12 respectively.
  • Level 7: All five songs will be promoted from Level 7 to Level 8. 4th and 5th place will get an extra 10 Place Points, giving them 13 and 12 respectively.
  • Level 6: 1st place will be promoted to Level 8 and earn double its normal Place Points (54). The remaining four songs will be promoted to Level 7. 4th and 5th place will get an extra 10 place points, giving them 13 and 12 respectively.
  • Level 5: 1st place will be promoted to Level 7 with double its place points (48). The remaining four songs will be promoted to Level 6. 4th and 5th place will get an extra 10 place points, giving them 13 and 12 respectively.
  • Level 4: 1st place will be promoted to Level 6 with double its Place Points (42). The remaining 5 songs will be promoted to Level 5. 4th, 5th and 6th place will get an extra 9 Place Points to go to 12, 11 and 10 respectively.
  • Level 3: 1st place will be promoted to Level 5 with double its Place Points (36). The remaining 5 songs will be promoted to Level 4. 4th, 5th and 6th place will get an extra 8 Place Points to go to 11, 10 and 9 respectively.
  • Level 2: Here’s where I start doing more because I have more available songs. 1st place will be promoted all the way up to Level 8 and will earn 200 Place Points, which is a little short of the average of points for the songs currently on Level 8 (this is how I determine the Place Points for the next few songs). 2nd place will be promoted all the way to Level 7 and will earn 190 Place Points. 3rd place will be promoted all the way to Level 6 and will earn 165 Place Points. 4th place will be promoted all the way to Level 5 and will earn 140 Place Points. 5th place will be promoted to Level 4 and will earn 100 Place Points (I selected that based on the previous averages). The remaining 6 songs will be promoted to Level 3 and will earn Place Points similar to the normal with a couple of tweaks (15, 13, 11, 10, 9 and 8 in this case).
  • Level 1: 1st place will be promoted to Level 8 and earn 200 Place Points…2nd to Level 7 with 190 Place Points…3rd to Level 6 with 165…4th to Level 5 with 140…5th to Level 4 with 100…6th place will be promoted to Level 3 with 75 Place Points (selected based on a quick scan of the numbers for the current Level 3 songs). The next 8 songs will be promoted to Level 2 with 12, 11, 10, 9, 8, 7, 6 and 5 Place Points respectively. The remaining 6 songs will remain on Level 1.
  • Entry Level: 1st place will be promoted to Level 8 and earn 200 Place Points…2nd to Level 7 with 190 Place Points…3rd to Level 6 with 165…4th to Level 5 with 140…5th to Level 4 with 100… 6th to Level 3 with 75…7th to Level 2 with 50 Place Points (a quick scan determined this one). The next 10 songs will be treated like the normal Top 10 for the Entry Level, getting 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2 and 1 Place Points and be promoted to Level 1. The remaining Entry Level songs will remain on the Entry Level.

When all is said and done, there will should be at least 8 songs on each Level, which should be good for a while.

I am hoping that this week will be the only time I have to have a “bonus voting” to adjust the number of songs on each level prior to my 2020 changes. If I need to do it again, I will use a similar method.
